Artistic development began early (above charcoal drawing from age 16 years old) and continued to focus on drawing and sculpture of figures and faces. Numerous art classes in various media led me to my chosen material: Glass. Design and construction of entirely unique stained glass windows, I continue to enjoy creating striking images that capture the essence of the subject. Learning from talented English artists, Stephen Bryne and David Williams, allowed me to achieve likenesses in glass. I've also taken classes from the famous glass artists Narcissus Quagliata and Tim Carey among other accomplished glass artists.

Glass is an amazing medium that comes alive with light. Natural light varies throughout the day and throughout the year with the seasons, giving memorial windows an ever changing interest and ethereal beauty. Traditional glass paintings are created by using special paint that is composed of microscopic glass particles that are then fired in a kiln at high temperature and fused into the glass giving shades of grey and black over the top of sheet glass. The individual pieces are joined by soldering lead, giving the typical black lines seen in stained glass windows. This process has not changed significantly for hundreds of years and the resulting glass paintings produced today can last for 500 years or longer. The lead may need to be replaced every 100 to 200 years.
Fused glass paintings are a relatively newer technique, just becoming a possibility due to technological advancements in the past 50 years or so. These more modern glass pieces are created from melting glass particles of different sizes and colours together in multiple firings. The glass works produced give an unsurpassed vibrancy when compared to oil painting and other media. Although a newer technique, these art pieces can also last 500 years or more. This technique may be combined with traditional glass painting to add shadows and further define the image. The fused glass paintings have the advantage of no lead-lines separating the colours and no need to replace lead as centuries pass.

Rooted by a love of nature and observation, the images in my glass windows aim to connect with viewers in a tangible way. My study of art history with fairly extensive travel to many of the fine art museums in Europe and North America contributes to a desire to push artistic boundaries and aspire to produce works of beauty that aim to emotionally move the viewer. The artists that have inspired me the most include Gustav Klimt's gold period portraits for his exquisite eye for design and aesthetic and Kahlil Glbran for his intangible, mysterious imagery. I'm inspired by a person's story and the process of creating a captivating representation of their unique life.
